Company History
Nicholson Drilling was founded in 1944 in the rural town of Port Orchard, by Arthur Nicholson as a drilling specific company (no pumping systems or water treatment systems were sold and serviced initially).
Bill Wiley, working for Nicholson as a driller’s helper and then driller became a full partner in 1952. Arthur and Bill split the company in two sections moving one half of the business to Alaska where Arthur saw great opportunity. Bill stayed in Port Orchard with his growing family, running the business alone until two of his son’s expressed a desire to work with him in the 1970’s.
Ron Wiley attended Central Washington University and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While attending school Ron worked drilling wells and learning the business model. Immediately following graduation Ron moved home and was taken on as a full partner in the growing business.
Jim Wiley served a tour in Vietnam and upon returning to the States, came to work with his father and brother, also being taken on as a full partner.
Early on the Wiley family’s emphasis on quality and service to customers built the company’s business via word of mouth, as it does today. Furthermore, the commitment to a strong sense of personal and professional integrity and determination earned the respect of peers and regulators alike.
Ron’s youngest son, Jon earned a degree in Business Administration from Seattle University while working with the family business and after graduation immediately began working full time and was taken on as a partner in February of 2007.
Nicholson Drilling’s dedication to quality and customer service has grown stronger with the expansion of services and a dedicated crew of employees focused on solving customer’s water problems.
“Every day our customers provide us with an opportunity to serve them, and every day our crews provide the solutions necessary to successfully fulfill that opportunity.”
-Jon Wiley
